Using Notes: Customize Any Dental Treatment Plan

The Trx Plan Generator Notes System is a unique way to insert custom notations or “notes” to customize and enhance any dental treatment plan. I am not aware of any other software product in the dental arena that easily permits a dentist to include personalized or clinically important information to enhance this necessary communication. As doctors, we tend to re-use certain phrases and words to verbally describe common dental information to our patients.

To explain, let’s use this clinical example: the patient is a 47-year old male who has excellent oral hygiene habits, but presents with multiple cervical-abfraction lesions requiring restoration. Along with the RESTORATIVE treatment plan, it is advantageous to explain the benefits & advantages of an occlusal guard appliance. I have already planned and entered the various single-surface restorations:

This presents a perfect opportunity to describe how the occlusal guard appliance reduces forces on these teeth and protects the dentition. As a dentist, I know that another patient will present with this same clinical problem sometime in the near future. It will save a lot of time if I can offer this same occlusal guard explanation for another treatment plan very soon, so it makes perfect sense to record a brief but effective note that can be easily re-used. On the restorative page of Trx Plan Generator, I locate the “Notes” button and click it. The Notes Selection Window pops up and I can scroll thru to find a previously created note that describes the usefulness of Occlusal Guard therapy…

Simply “click” any part of the Procedure or Note text to transfer this note directly onto the next available row in the Trx Plan listing:

If you don’t have a Notes listing that you created previously, it is very easy to do so. Once again, click the Notes button to open the selection window. At the bottom, look for a “New Note” button and select it, bringing up a new Note Entry window:

You can create an unlimited number of notes that will allow you to explain or emphasize any information you think is important for the patient to understand. You can copy notes to create new ones with slight adjustments to your the wording, then use these explanations whenever you want.

The last part of this section on notes allows you to edit the procedure name or text at any time. If you have a note that you would like to amend or change, look for the small blue Edit Notes button on the left of the Notes Listing:

Selecting the Blue Edit Notes Button brings up that note in the edit mode, allowing you to easily change your wording for the Procedure Name or the note text:

We use the Notes system on almost every plan to identify risks, explain nuance or to remind the patient of something important about the proposed treatment they may have forgotten.
